Lower Antelope Canyon is well known for its breathtaking views. This unique canyon was formed over millions of years by water and wind and resulted in the stunning shapes and textures you see today. In this blog post, you’ll learn some insider tips on how to make your Lower Antelope Canyon trip one for the books!

Planning Your Visit

Tip #1:

Book your trip in advance. During the summer months, which are the busiest time of the year, we cannot guarantee that there will be any same-day tour slots available. We want to make sure that you have the best experience possible, and booking in advance will help!

Tip #2:

Book during the “off-season,” which is the spring and winter months, either mid-morning or late afternoon. There will be less of a chance of a tour needing to be rescheduled due to monsoon storms, and you won’t have to deal with the crowds! These tours are usually our favorite because we can spend some extra time helping you get those perfect pictures and even take some photos of you and your family in the canyon.

Tip #3:

Depending on the tour that you book, the average tour length is about an hour throughout the canyon. Although the canyon is cooler once you descend into it, the outside temperatures (especially during the summer months) can be scorching. We recommend avoiding booking trips during the hottest part of the day (midday) to avoid the potential for heat exhaustion. Be sure to bring enough water with you, as well!

What to Bring

There are some essentials that we recommend our guests bring, no matter the season, in order to have the most enjoyable trip possible:

  • Water
  • Comfortable walking shoes because there will be sections of the tour where you’ll have to walk up and down the stairs
  • Dress in layers because the canyon is typically 10-15 degrees cooler than the ambient temperature
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Tips for guides are always appreciated!

Please Note: During your tour, you’ll also have many opportunities to take photos, and we recommend you bring your camera gear. However, tripods and monopods are not allowed as these could damage the delicate canyon walls.

Navigating the Canyon

There are some physical requirements when it comes to visiting Lower Antelope Canyon. Be mindful that you’ll need to walk from the visitors center to the canyon itself, which is about a half-mile walk. You’ll also experience several sets of steep ladders to get into and out of the canyon.

Our guides will be with you every step of the way but the best practice is to listen to what the guides have to tell you to keep you safe! Lower Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon that experiences flash flooding. We take safety very seriously and will cancel tours if there is any threat of a flash flood. Please take note of our cancellation policy before visiting.

Our goal at Ken’s Tours is to share the beauty of Lower Antelope Canyon with our guests and discuss its importance to the Navajo Nation. Lower Antelope Canyon is considered sacred, and because of that, we ask that you follow “Leave No Trace” principles to keep it in its beautiful condition for generations to come.

Real Experiences from Our Guests

Here is what some of our guests had to say about their recent visit to Lower Antelope Canyon with Ken’s Tours:

“One of the things I knew I needed to do when visiting Arizona was to visit Antelope Canyon. I had read some reviews and ultimately decided to book with Ken’s Tours, and I’m so glad I did! We had opted for the 8:30 am slot since we wanted to book another tour with them later on in the day, which, FYI you can totally do and was one of the main reasons why we booked with them.

The parking there was ample enough to fit a good amount of cars, but it does get packed quickly! There are also restrooms available on-site because once you start the tour, there are no more stops available. The tour is separated into smaller groups of maybe 10, so you’ll see perhaps 7-8 groups in a single tour slot.

Our tour guide, Dylan A., was an absolute treasure! He was attentive and informative and just gave off a welcoming vibe. Definitely made the tour memorable! And, of course, the canyon itself was breathtaking! There are some strict rules put in place for your safety, but all in all I think a good number of people will be able to go on this tour. It was only at the beginning of the tour that there were steep steps involved, but it was pretty easy going forward. 10/10 would recommend!”

“Our guide was super funny and even helped the group with certain camera settings to improve pictures. He stopped about five times to take pictures of people at nice spots. That was cool and gave us nice memories. The group size was about 15, which was great. There were not many opportunities to take pictures without anyone in it as the canyon was pretty stuffed. But still, it was worth it! Be aware that you have to climb some stairs and ladders to get down to the canyon. Really fun experience and worth the 72$.”

Safety Note

Please be mindful that Lower Antelope Canyon experiences flash floods, and we reserve the right to cancel the tour if weather conditions are unsafe for our guests and guides. Safety is our number one concern! Check your email or our social media to stay up to date on any tour cancellations.
